Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, led the distribution of learning materials to 300 orphans drawn from 12 wards of Katsina Local Government Area. The initiative was sponsored by the Yakubu Mai Canji Foundation and took place at the Katsina Local Government Secretariat.

The event attracted top government officials, including the Katsina State Commissioner for Health, representatives of the Katsina Local Government Chairman, community leaders, clerics, and a large turnout of residents. Teachers and pupils who benefitted from the gesture were also present.

Chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Yakubu Ali Mai Canji, said the initiative was inspired by Governor Radda’s quality leadership in Katsina.

“Even though I hold no government position, the Governor’s exemplary leadership has motivated us to support the community through charity. We hope this contribution will provide these children with a brighter future,” he stated.

He added that the foundation’s vision is to complement government efforts in improving the welfare of the people, which he described as the cornerstone of progress.

In his remarks, Governor Radda commended the Yakubu Mai Canji Foundation for its commitment to humanitarian service. He emphasized the importance of community participation in building a stronger Katsina State.

“Supporting orphans is one of the noblest causes that brings blessings to society. I urge other well-meaning individuals to emulate this example and contribute their quota towards the progress of our state. I also call on the beneficiaries to make good use of this support, focus on their studies, and strive to become future leaders that Katsina and Nigeria will be proud of,” the Governor said.

Learning materials were formally handed over to councillors from the respective wards for distribution to the identified orphans. The ceremony ended on a note of joy and goodwill from the enthusiastic crowd.
